It took 15 minutes for the Ladies' O45s to wake up on Sunday afternoon and by then they were 2-0 down to South Berks who had scored an impressive short corner strike and a well worked open goal. There was room behind the opposition defence however that was exploited by Rachel firing in a cross, well anticipated by Pip, who made the touch in at the far post look easy. Confidence in our ability to compete was restored but the score remained 2-1 at half time with everything to play for.
The Ladies O45s looked a different team in the second half, neutralising the oppositions play maker and having the belief that we could play as well as they could! However it was South Berks who scored next taking the score to 3-1. Unbowed by conceding again the pressure was re-applied and it wasn’t long before Linda Philips was there to tip the ball in for an Eagles second.
Despite their best efforts the equaliser didn’t materialise, and South Berks managed defensive possession well all the way to the final whistle.
A big welcome to new players Marion and Angie and congratulations to Claire ‘birthday girl’ Hooper who was our player of the match. Particular thanks to Bernie who ran the bench for us and the excellent whistling from Jacqui Barlow and Dave Hughes.
An enjoyable and close run encounter , we’re looking forward to being on the other side of the scoreline in the return fixture.
