Another early start saw Hawks C stride onto the top BRN pitch for their 10am push back. With their Oxford opposition well into their warm up, Hawks got their heads together to sort out names and positions. Having won the toss, Hawks took first push back and Pollyanna’s 3D skills and a great forward run by Molly saw the ball passed back to Polly who slipped the ball past the Oxford keeper after only 16 seconds were on the stopwatch. What a start!
Play continued with Hawks driving forward with great connections being made from inners Romilly, Caitlin and Chloe to the forwards, ably supported by the half backs of Yas, Fran, Kayleigh and Katie. Short corners awarded but for once Hawks couldn’t convert any - but that didn’t matter as Molly striving hard for a goal of her own assisted Liz, Pip and Polly to a further 3 goals. Half-time score 4-0.
Oxford came out quickly at the start of the 2nd half, determined to get on the score sheet but solid defending at the back from Connie, Jan, Phil and Teyha made sure that the Hawks goal line was never crossed. Instead fast breaks out from defensive passes saw Juliette slip the ball to Polly for Polly’s hat trick goal. Chances came and went but with a ‘not to be outdone’ mentality Pip secured Hawks a further 2 goals and another Hawks hat trick! Final score 7-0 to the early birds!
The home made cakes didn’t quite make it to the pitch, having been thrown across the car park, but were replaced by some brought sugary delights, and enjoyed by all. (Thanks Annie and Molly)!
Thanks to our umpire Geoff for blowing that whistle so well.
Captain’s choice for MOM went to Molly, whose efforts today may not have resulted in her getting onto the score sheet, but most definitely contributed to the 7 goals that were scored!
Finally my thanks to all who have played Saturday hockey for Team C - it was lovely to play with you all!
Thanks also to Clive Jones for the superb photo of Pip diving for the ball!
