With grey skies, rain in the air, gusty winds and a damp pitch Hawks Ladies C team stepped out for a 10am push back. A mix of players from the 6s and 7s waited for their Oxford opposition to turn up and were soon setting the pace and took the lead with Pip’s first goal of the game. Oxford were quick to reply to level the score only a couple of minutes later and on the stroke of half time converted their penalty corner to go into the break 2-1 up.
Hawks knew that they could do better, especially if they kept the ball, passed to a Hawks player and put pressure on the Oxford defence. No sooner had the the second half started and Hawks were putting into practice what was asked of them. Connections and little triangles started to work across the pitch and 3 Hawks goals from Polly, Juliette and Pip with assists from Molly was the result and Hawks were leading 4-2.
Oxford attacking on both sides of the pitch outflanked the Hawks defence and despite Teyha’s best efforts in goal got a goal back. This only led to more quick short passes from the Hawks team and with pressure on the Oxford goalie a 5th Hawks goal came from a super reverse stick strike by Skye to make it 5-3 to Hawks. Umpire AMH had to resharpen his pencil to keep record of the number of goals being scored ahead of Juliette’s 2nd goal and a final consolation goal from Oxford.
The final whistle saw the goal fest end at 6-4 to Hawks.
Thanks to Fran for the full time biscuits and to Jacs for blowing the whistle for Hawks.
