This sunny Saturday morning, Hawks travelled to Wallingford with the anticipation of a challenging match ahead. Deborah led a great team talk before we started, explaining how to apply our training to match play. This set us up well for the game ahead.

Going into the first half, Hawks started strong with most of the game play in the Wallingford defensive quarter. Although quite clustered at first, we soon started to open up the game play around the D and the chances started to come. Great positioning and a strike at goal from Kiki, saw a rebound off the keeper which Laura successfully picked up, scoring our 1st goal! This goal was closely followed by another, when Angie made a lovely slip into the D to Emily who had an awesome shot at goal. Our 3rd came from Angie after a great cross from Emily into the D. Finally, our 4th (Yes 4th!!) and final goal was created when Clare made an excellent run down the wing, crossing to Emily who scored.

The second half started and Wallingford came back strong. Although the team pressed more, our defense remained robust, leaving our goalkeeper Iona with very little to do. Hawks had multiple opportunities throughout the half and a few short corners but with Wallingford playing more defensive, our advances were held off.

Overall it was a great game to watch with Hawks making good use of space and the pivot to switch play. Congratulations to the following: Carys, Kiki, Claire , Angie, Emily, Megan,  Hannah, Iona who were all nominated for Player of the Match.  The winner was Emily who had a terrific game.
