Reading 5s won but L6s after match cake brought smiles to all

12 December 2020, 10:00, Sonning Lane

Ladies' 6s 1 - 5 Reading Ladies 5s

It’s the first half and the pressure is on by Reading. Hawks holding strong with Yas and Harriet leading the defence, suddenly a Reading attacker sneaks through and gains a goal 12 minutes in.
Short corners suddenly become the umps favourite call, a string of amazing saves from all of defence and Evelyn our fabulous goalie. Yas taking her role so seriously she defended the goal with her thigh (that’s going to leave a bruise - small correction from Yas was that the ball hit her arm the first time and my foot the second! No thigh involved but painful nevertheless). Finally a goal was scored again by Reading.
With Kayleigh and Rom making some amazing runs up and down the pitch to Anna ready to go in attack. Reading started to get tired. (And so did we).
A Reading player slipped through and made their way down the line where another was on post waiting for the shot. They scored it’s 3-0.
Time for a break.
Second half, Hawks have come back with the determination to gain a point. Reading started to look worried. With great play from Rosie and Holly the ball flew up the pitch. Allowing Molly to make some cracking runs up to the D. It was our chance a short corner had been given. With Yas giving the suggestion of play, it was set up, it was played and IT WAS SCORED. Great ball from Kayleigh on post and Linda on strike it slotted in right behind the goalie. They never saw it coming.
Reading got jealous and decided to score another goal 3 minutes later.
Reading having possession decided to try get past Sara she wasn’t letting that happen.... using her face as a shield she kept Reading out of the D, coming away with hardly a scratch. Suddenly a break through from Reading with a strong back post deflection another goal was scored. With a few more shots on goal by Reading Jan and Jess was there stick down at the ready to stop anything coming their way. Lotty guiding players and sending balls up towards our attacking end gave lots of chances to get a goal. Unfortunately Reading’s defence were tight and kept it out.
Amazing game from all and really well played.
Final score 5-1

We were all greeted at the end of the match with the most amazing chocolate creation by Molly.
