Ladies' 8s in draw with Thame
05 December 2020, 14:00, Banbury Road North (Top)
Ladies' 8s 1 - 1 Thame Ladies 4s
After lockdown stopped play, we were all keen to be back for our first match and it did not disappoint. Thame made a strong start, making a dart for our D within the first few minutes. Although it looked as though the match was going to go in Thames favour, we settled into the game and began to press. With better use of space and switching of play, we started to create opportunities. With some excellent team passing, Charlotte C carried the ball up the wing, making a strong hit across D to the front of the goal where Lottie managed to get a stick on the ball, scoring late in the first half.
At half time, the score was 1-0 to Hawks and spirits were high. We had a productive team talk with some positive suggestions for all sections of the team.
The second half began with Thame on the front foot. With some excellent defending from the backs and midfields, we managed to keep Thame at bay. Pam and Huei made some lovely drives up the wing but unfortunately we could not penetrate their defense. We were under pressure again and with an unfortunate short corner, Thame equalised.
The match was an entertaining watch for all and ended in a fair result. Nominations for player of the match were Pam, Lottie, Charlotte, Megan, Hannah, Gill and Jess but the well deserved overall winner was Angie.
Many thanks to Gill for stepping in as captain, Wendy Sobey for managing substitutions and to Robbie Scragg for becoming a late umpire with Alice Potter. Thanks also to Mak Diab for the great photos.
