The Ladies 1s made the very short hop to Iffley Road to play their game against Oxford University, behind "closed doors" due to the restrictions placed on sport by the University itself. In the first quarter the students had the lions share of the play, with some very skilful players giving the Hawks defence a lot to think about - but they defended superbly with Jess Madden Waite on particularly good form. Hawks did have chances of their own, and took the lead just before quarter time, when Jemina threaded the ball down the left to player of the match Katie Lowe, who took the ball perfectly in flow and drove into the D, and scored with a diving finish past the advancing keeper.
In the second quarter, Hawks scored from the restart, with Katie Lowe again on the scoresheet, finishing well after great work down the right side, to leave the students a bit shocked. Sandra added another with a perfectly executed penalty corner routine, and then Tiny/Claire added a fourth on the stroke of half time.
In the second half the Uni certainly didn't give up - they still created chances, and in fact pulled one back just before three-quarter time when they scored from the second phase of a penalty corner. However just after the restart, any hope of a comeback was quashed when Gemma Croker smashed in a fifth. Tiny then added another to make it 6-1, but there was time for one more goal for the students as they again scored from a corner. The final whistle blew, to end a very enjoyable game - certainly a nice way to end "Part One" of the season. We all look forward to Part Two!
