Ladies' 8s soggily surrender to better Uni side
31 October 2020, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 8s 0 - 13 Oxford University Ladies 4s
After some good wins in the last few matches, we were looking forward to continuing our winning streak. It was not to be as the Oxford Uni side was too strong.
In the very wet first half, we gave Oxford Uni too many opportunities to get into the D and score. We were 0 : 8 down.
At half-time we had a positive team talk. We discussed not leaving players unmarked in the D and making smaller passes meaning Oxford Uni had less opportunity to intercept the ball.
In the second half we played a much better defensive game and reduced the number of attempts by Oxford Uni on goal. There was some great play by Deborah and Gill clearing the ball out of the D. The forwards made some great space up front and there was some lovely passing up the pitch. Lucy made a good attempt on goal.
Nominations for player of the match this week were Deborah, Alice, Gill and Sal but the winner was the fantastic Goalie, Gabriele, who saved many attempts on goal. She was on top form today but the onslaught from the Oxford Uni attackers was just too great.
Many thanks to Charlie Baggs and Yasmin Elgen for umpiring and Wendy Sobey for managing the substitutions.
