The 3's travelled to Marlow on Saturday and it was a tough day from the outset. 3-0 down in ten minutes. Fraser has to take some of the blame for this as his controversial warm up music failed to motivate the lads to make a quick start. We were without captain Lamby for this one and it showed defensively, Our defenders were socially distant from the Marlow attackers throughout the first half. 3-0 quickly turned to 6-0 before half time and with a rather large number of Marlow ultras in attendance it was beginning to get quite embarrassing. (Well not as embarrassing as having to miss a game because you got punched by one of your mates.)
However, after a good half time team talk by stand in skipper Rocket the team responded admirably in the second 35. The defense was more stable with the captain stepping in to help and the attack looked pretty threatening. Much of this down to the late arrival of the ferocious Ian Roberts. And it was his hit with the help of a rather sympathetic Marlow defender which got the goal to get the boys back in the game. 6-1!! He then turned creator for Hawks' second goal. His backhand cross was expertly deflected in by Robbie Scragg. A goal that he will definitely be telling his tinder dates about this week. He will probably tell them it was a last minute winner. After two late goals for Marlow the game finished 8-2, a scoreline which definitely flattered them. Plenty of positives to take on to next week where I have no doubt we will pick up the first points of the season at BRN.
