Ladies' 8s win again!
24 October 2020, 13:00, St. Edward's School
Ladies' 8s 1 - 0 Amersham & Chalfont Ladies' 7s
After our first win, we were all keen to play again so the side was largely unchanged from last week. Gabby got pulled up to play Ladies’ 7s so we had Purdy in goal instead. We had an extra 5 people to make total of 17 in the squad. That is why we were very grateful for Wendy Sobey who managed the complex substitutions.
We got off to a good start and began attacking. There were lots of good moves up the right with the inners and forwards working well together. The crosses into the D were great but we could just not get the ball into the net.
At halftime we had lots of positive suggestions to think about from all sections of the team.
In the second half we continued to pile on the pressure but seemingly to no avail. Purdy continued to give encouragement and tactics from the baseline. Then we had a ball hit into their circle and their keeper called “Leave it”. She turned to watch it off the back line only to discover Lucy on the right post who popped it into the goal. We were 1 – 0 up and that is the way it stayed until the final whistle.
As you would expect with such a team effort, there were nominations for player of the match for Alice, Huei, Purdy, Megan, Sallyan, Hannah and Charlotte Peel but the winner by a long way was Lucy Mallinder who had a superb game.
Many thanks to Phil Williams and Yasmin Elgen for umpiring, Wendy Sobey for managing the substitutions and Mak Diab for taking the photographs.
