The Ladies 2s were back at BRN bright and early on Saturday to take on Teddington. Following a focused warm up, Hawks started the game well with strong leading across the lines, and sharp passing resulting in a couple of close opportunities. Hawks continued to play with confidence, and it wasn’t long before Annabel opened the scoring, finishing off a good team move. Teddington were quick to respond, with some quickly taken free hits that at times caught Hawks out of position. It was on one of these breaks that Teddington won a short corner. The initial strike came back off the post, but the resulting rebound was put away. Not long after, a similar move resulted in another corner, where the initial strike was saved but Teddington were first to the rebound to make the score 2-1. As half time approached, Hawks continued to play positive hockey and create opportunities but were not able to score.
Some wise words from Wilko at half time, encouraged Hawks to continue to play with confidence and work as a team to take advantage of the opportunities created. The game continued with some great end to end attacking hockey, with a number of chances created. Half way through the second half, Caro stepped up to take a short corner and buried it in the bottom corner to the team and home supporters delight! From there Hawks sensed there might be time for a winner, and continued to press high. Some great leading in the final third created opportunities that we couldn’t quite find the final touch to finish off. As the clock ticked down, one last attack was brilliantly saved by the Teddington keeper. Overall a very enjoyable and competitive game to play in, with some fantastic attacking hockey from both teams. This was reflected in the man of the match nominations, which resulted in a four-way tie between Connie, Caro, Jess & Annabel! Lots of positives to take away into the next week of training ahead of our game away at Bournemouth.
