An early start today for the Ladies 7’s against Bicester Ladies 4’s.  It’s been just a few weeks since our last match with them, at our pre-season friendly in September, so we had a little insight into their gameplay strategy.

Hawks started with gusto and got straight into some excellent passing game play, as a team the passing today was accurate and effective and by a few minutes in Hawks were dominating play.

After 10 minutes of settling into play Pops scored our first goal with a chip in on a great cross from Kelly followed 3 minutes later by another goal chipped in from Kelly herself.

For the next 11 minutes, although they did not reply at this stage with a goal, Bicester did have several assertive good runs against us that were safely challenged, reclaimed and cleared by the Hawks midfield and back row with some solid tackles and confident passes.

As we neared half time Juliette scored 2 excellent goals in 2 minutes bringing the score to 4-0 with minutes to go before the half time whistle.   Not content with her 2, Juliette was eager to achieve her hattrick and managed this within minutes of the second half, she was ‘on-fire’ today!!!!

Hawks continued to dominate the game play and a great cross to Liz from Kelly to the middle of the D gave Liz the opportunity to gain her goal of the game with a powerful strike.

The run of the game has to go to Jess who, receiving the ball at the half-way line ran the side-line, entered the D and finished the job herself with a great strike and score!

Although late in the game Bicester did catch us out and replied with a goal around 10 mins before the end of the game, they were great opponents and kept fighting for the ball during the whole game.

Although goal scorers are mentioned above this was an excellent ‘team’ game. Everyone played a strong game and worked as a team with loads of effective short passing being used between all players to avoid and disrupt the oppositions defence.  Goals cannot be scored by strikers alone – it takes 15 players to win a game!!! Well done Hawks Ladies 7’s – we are building on our team understanding, trust and comradery each week and it’s really fun, which is what it’s all about!

Final score 7-1 to Hawks

Goals to :  Poppy 1, Kelly 1, Juliette 3, Liz 1, Jess 1

Well deserved ‘Gal of the Match’ : Juliette
