We had 13 players for an away game in Slough and were slow to get going but soon began to find each other. Iver & Burnham scored quite quickly with 2 goals near the start of the game but we got one back with a goal by Pam. Their goalkeeper committed and Pam took her time, went around the keeper and scored. At half time, there was a lot of constructive ideas by the whole team and we went into the second half with a positive mindset. In the second half we were a lot stronger, we talked to each other and marked better. We managed to equalise the score with a great goal from Angie before Iver & Burnham scored again, we then equalised again once again from a goal by Angie and then got one final goal thanks to Laura which pushed us ahead. Only one of these goals was from a short corner but the practice we did has paid off.
Gabby had a good game in goal with not a lot to do in the second half. Sallyan and Gill at the back defended well and were a very reliable pair. Aimee showed off some lovely skills as a half. Megan brought drive and enthusiasm to the game and was good at tackling back. Alice, also on the half line was good at marking and contributing also to the attack. Liv, playing her first game for us, made good use of space as left inner with consistent attacks. We must congratulate Laura on her first goal ever! (Angie felt she had to point out that it was the first time she had scored in hockey for 23 years!)
Everyone played very well, the nominations for player of the match included Pam and Huei. Pam played an excellent game, out of position, as centre-forward. Huei made good use of space on the right and many times was seen powering up the right wing to deliver a cross into the circle. However, the final players of the match were awarded jointly to Angie, who was a very strong left forward (and got 2 goals), and Charlotte, who was a rock in centre midfield.
Thanks to Mak Diab for the excellent photos.
