Ladies' 1s 0 - 3 Sutton Coldfield Ladies 1s
The Ladies 1s made the journey north up to Sutton Coldfield, a side they drew 0-0 with in pre-season. They started well, passing for fun around the back and dominating possession, but after ten minutes the home side scored against the run of play from a clinical short corner finish. Hawks had plenty of chances of their own in the first half, with Gemma Whippet Croker getting a lot of joy around the back along the baseline, but Sutton Coldfield defended well. Late in the first half the home side were awarded a penalty stroke for a foul in the D, but Millie Lane repeated her heroics from the previous week and saved superbly.
In the third quarter Sutton Coldfield doubled their lead from another corner, where Hawks cleared and saved the ball about three times before Sutton managed to score. A few minutes later they scored a third when they broke down the right and finished well into the roof of the goal.
In the final quarter Hawks threw everything forward and dominated the quarter, with Rachel Moore hitting the post early on. Trickery down the right from Sandra Roche caused havoc for the home side but Hawks just weren’t able to find the finishing touch. Time ran down to leave the Ladies 1s frustrated with their performance and with plenty to think about and work on before next weekend.
