The Magnificent 7’s welcomed a few new faces to the squad in the shape of Jack White, whose qualification is that he plays cricket with Hutts and has played a bit of hockey some time ago and Phil Hargreaves as GK, who I guess is also a mate of Hutts (and others) and well, has also played a bit of hockey some time ago……

Just before pushback news comes through that Pete Hobbs had a problem at the farm and can’t make it and so we start with just one sub and the promise of James Burroughs arriving for the 2nd half.

Hawks started well and put plenty of pressure on Thame with few incursions into our half.  There were several near misses until from Dom/ Ollie Baillie (now known as Dolly) worked the ball to the right hand side base line and delivered a ball to Nico who swept in for 1-0.  First half action also saw some breakaway moves from a youthful Thame forward line but messrs Hack and Geoff were resolute at the back and not much got through that wasn’t then chased down. Hawks had plenty of short corner opportunities but were unable to convert but went in at half time still nervy at 1-0.

Second half saw Thame pick up the pace but just unable to convert their chances.  Hawks secured the decisive second goal from a well hit ball outside the D from James Burroughs to Elliot who got the thinnest of deflections to find the back of the net. The ‘not so Magnificents at finishing’ then squandered at least 3 or 4 other efforts but more importantly kept a clean sheet at the other end.

Honourable mentions must go to Andy Graham and Richard Webb who worked hard all match at left and right inside forward, Jack White who had a solid first game and ‘Dolly’ Baillie, although his fitness just left him at the end….We end week 2 of the league in 2nd place only on goal difference and travel to Newbury and Thatcham next week for a top of the table clash.

Great afternoon was only made more enjoyable by the great match tea by the kiosk.  Despite these strange times it all felt refreshingly ‘normal’ and a great boost for the weekend.  Thanks also to Evelyn for the photos...
