Ladies 5s battled in vain in the rain

03 October 2020, 11:15, Great Marlow School

Ladies' 5s 2 - 4 Marlow Ladies 4s

Raining, raining, all day long,
Very wet, very cold, Purdy's kit is going to pong.

A trip to Marlow with a full squad in tow,
Emma's team talk wanted the hockey to flow.

There were puddles in the car park, and puddles on the pitch,
Susan's improved hits allowed the play to switch.

Polly wore her winter woolies, and Jane her snowman socks,
And it was Becky who made the important goal line block.

Caroline and Ffion got us organised, with calling from the back,
And Monica scored a goal with a penalty corner whack.

Bernie will sail her boat tomorrow, along the rivers in the street,
But it was Sherene who's man of the match left her upbeat.

It wasn't a day for Hawks as we as ended up in defeat,
But in the car park Sophie's cake did we eat.

Raining, raining, all day long,
Next week's local derby, we need to be strong.

It wasn't to be for Hawks, although a promising start we didn't react quick enough to Marlow's diamond formation. Hawks went close with a penalty corner which went just wide, and a strike across goal cried out for a player on the post. With 2-0 down at half time, Hawks were still in the game.

With a better formation, Hawks came out strong in the second half. Good play between Alice, Rebecca and Rosie allowed Rosie to score slipping the ball past the keeper. Hawks continued to battle and should have equalled the game, but it was Marlow who increased their lead with two more goals. Monica scored from a penalty corner but Hawks came away with a 4-2 loss.
