First League Game = First Win for Oxford Hawks Ladies 2s

26 September 2020, 11:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 2s 2 - 1 Fareham Ladies 1s

It is fair to say Fareham Ladies 1s started well, barely allowing us out of our half of the pitch during the first 10 – 15mins of the game. However, after facing at least 3 short corners in quick succession and thanks to some amazing saves from GK Liv and crucial tackles from Scraggle keeping us in the game we weathered the storm, growing in confidence and determination keeping the score line at 0-0 at half time.

After some firm but fair words from Wilko during the half time talk, we started the second half the more composed and organised team with more shots on target and defending better as a unit.

Annoyingly and against the run of play Fareham broke through and scored. However, Hawks kept up the intensity and shortly after, Jess received the ball on the run and beat 3 players to give us an equaliser.  We were back in the game!

The remaining 20 minutes was end-to-end hockey with both teams having opportunities. Harriet H notably with a near miss after dribbling past 2 players and belting the ball at goal.  With 5 minutes left to play Annabel scored a crucial goal – hooray a 2-1 win and a fantastic start to the league!
