The Ladies 1s welcomed fellow Conference West side Sutton Coldfield to BRN on a hot sunny afternoon. Hawks started superbly, playing some glorious passing hockey all over the pitch, creating numerous chances in the first quarter. However they were thwarted by some good defending and solid goalkeeping, and the score remained goalless. In the second quarter Sutton Coldfield started to get more into the game and created a few opportunities of their own, but were not able to convert.
The first goal came minutes into the second half, when Hawks pushed high but were caught on a quick break, with the Sutton Coldfield finishing well with her one on one against Millie Lane in goal. From here the game changed as some scrappy tackles ended up with green cards, with both sides down to 9 at various times. The greens turned to yellows near the end of the game, and chances started to come - in the final quarter Hawks pushed forward and were rewarded with a penalty corner was given right at the death. Claire Werlinger was on hand to finish from the second phase, with what turned out to be the last touch of the game.
Hawks look forward to opening their league campaign away to Bristol Firebrands next weekend.
