In the second game, against a fresh legged Gloucester side, Hawks weathered some early pressure and conceded a goal from a penalty corner drag flick. They quickly doubled their lead with a breakaway goal, but Hawks pulled one back with an outstanding team goal which started at the back with a lovely ball out from Sally Clark. Gemma Croker then skilfully glided past four players before calmly passing to Lexie Spurr on the far post for an easy finish. Gloucester extended their lead early on in the second half, but Hawks responded again with a penalty corner strike from Gemma Taylor, her first goal for the Ladies 1s. Hawks almost levelled with five minutes to spare but the Catherine Reaney’s effort was cleared off the line. Hawks pressed hard to find the equaliser but left themselves exposed as Gloucester broke and scored again to make the score 4-2. The final whistle blew moments later to end a good pre-season outing for Hawks, with plenty to build on for next weekend.
