Hail dampens L4s hard work against Phoenix & Ranelagh1s

29 February 2020, 11:30, Reading University Sports Park

Ladies' 4s 1 - 2 Phoenix & Ranelagh Ladies 1s

On a windy, cold and haily Saturday morning Hawks Ladies 4s travelled to Reading to face top of the league Phoenix and Ranelagh Ladies 1s. In the first 5 minutes Hawks were showing some of the best hockey they’ve played all season with some amazing tackles from the defence, brilliant leads from the forwards and great back and forth passing in the midfield. All this incredible play came to our advantage when we scored our first goal putting us 1-0 up. This came from a rebound after numerous shots on goal, as Sandra smacked it in from the top of the D.

After a quick and effective team chat at half time the Ladies were ready to get back on and score another goal. However, a dramatic turn in weather made it very difficult for both teams, but unfortunately, we were at a stronger disadvantage as the opposition scored their first goal making it 1-1. With much frustration we set ready to go again. It was a very close game for both teams but annoyingly Phoenix and Ranelagh managed to get a very scrappy goal that led to much discussion between the umpires but didn’t end in our favour. Despite a frustrating result Phoenix and Ranelagh kindly pointed out that we were their toughest opposition so far.
