Narrow defeat to top of the table for the 3's
29 February 2020, 10:30, Slough HC
Ladies' 3s 1 - 2 Slough Ladies 2s
We started the game in a dominant position with most of the play down our attacking end, stringing passes together and putting Slough under pressure. After the first 5/10 mins of the game the play became more even and Slough started making more breaks. Despite
this we had a lot more chances in the D than them, but we narrowly missed out on converting with many shots either hitting or just slipping past the post. The first half was played end to end and finished 0-0.
At half time we knew we needed to make better connections, work harder to win the 50/50 balls and be on the posts if we wanted to win the game. With this in mind, Slough were instantly put under pressure from the whistle as we soon made a turn over from their
push back. This was made by Helen, who worked with Meg Minton to get the ball up the pitch; however, Slough were quick to drop back and carried the ball back down their end. The game continued very even, but Slough made dangerous breaks of play throughout
the second half. Our defence worked well to mark players and made scoring very difficult for Slough’s forwards, causing them to run it off the baseline multiple times. However, they put us in a difficult position with a very high press on our 16s and as a
result they were able to steal the ball and win themselves a goal. This didn't knock us as we continued to play the ball up both wings and won ourselves a short corner mid way through the second half. A great strike, taken by Beth, was deflected into the net
making the score 1-1. Despite the fact we had many opportunities in the D, Slough’s high pressure won them a goal at the end of the second half. The match finished 2-1 to Slough.
Even though this was a frustrating result, we played well considering they are top of the league and have clearly improved significantly since the last time we played them.
