Ladies 2s put their foot in it

29 February 2020, 14:30, Old Schools Lane

Ladies' 2s 1 - 2 Epsom Ladies' 1s

Hawks Ladies 2’s travelled down to Epsom ready to take on a tough opposition. After a team talk sat in what seemed to be a shipping container, Hawks had a focused warm up , preparing to start the game strong.

In the first half (while the sun was still shining) Epsom came out hard with a strong press which proved hard to break down. Although patience in the back line was great, an unlucky break lead to Kate being taken out, and with play controversially carrying on, Epsom managed to take a 1-0 lead. With heads still high and some excellent saves from MoM Kate, Hawks made some strong attacking play and where unlucky not to score before half time.

The second half brought some unexpected weather, with hail, wind and rain battering each player. Hawks pressed on, but unfortunately Epsom broke through and scored a well-worked goal. However, the team persevered, and with an interception from Harriet H, a quick pass to Lexi who finished it off smoothly, the score was now 2-1.

Hawks kept up the attacking pressure in the last 10, with Alice Potter earning hawks a short corner, only then to momentarily decide her foot seemed more of an appropriate option to stop the ball with then the stick, and this earned her DoD. The game ended at a 2-1 loss, although the whole team worked well and delivered through each line, even when faced with some tough weather.
