Ladies 5s score three goals.......but still loose!

08 February 2020, 11:00, Great Marlow School

Ladies' 5s 3 - 5 Marlow Ladies 4s

We started strong putting pressure on the Marlow defence winning an early penalty corner. Despite being nicely worked the shot on goal went wide. Continuing to play with energy and confidence, Zoe scored 10 minutes into the first half. Marlow were quick to react and after some sustained pressure on our defence they equalised.
Not all at fazed by this we regrouped and after some lovely play down the left by Monica, a pass to Caitie who moved it on to Pip saw our second goal being secured.

Against the run of play Marlow equalised making it 2-2. They continued  to dominate causing confusion in our circle, scoring again to go 3-2 up.

Undeterred by this, we kept our heads and after an exciting break and a lot of action in the opposition’s half, Lucia brought us back to 3-3 just before half time.

We came out energised at the start of the second half and despite some early pressure from Marlow we played some really good hockey with some nice connected play.

Unfortunately it couldn’t be sustained and after a period of scrappy play on our part Marlow took the lead after a controversial goal that had been lifted into Becky.
We lost momentum and concentration and the majority of the play was in our half requiring Evelyn to make a number of important saves from open play and penalty corners.

We picked up our game for the last few minutes but were unable to stop Marlow scoring again before the final whistle. Final score 3-5.

A much improved all round team performance, and despite the final score, a performance we should be proud of.
