The Ladies 6s headed down the A34 to take on Abingdon 2s under stormy skies while awaiting the rain from storm Dennis to arrive but Dennis (the storm) was late, thank god! We had a slow start to the match and it was 0-0 for ages. Then we got a short corner and Bella managed to slot the ball between the keepers legs. Another goal was soon to be scored, just before the halftime whistle had blown, when Linda received a dynamic pass into the D from Buffy. At halftime Hawks were 2-0 up and looking for more.
The halftime strawberry laces didn’t seem to do the trick of tying the game up as Hawks were denied a third goal as the umpires couldn’t be sure there had been a clear Hawks touch before the ball hit the back board. Abingdon then took their lucky chance when a ball was crossed in from their captain to a free player who scored. At 2-1 up we re-grouped, made some good connections and Lairdy, having learned from her first half saved shot direct to the keeper, got on the end of Lotty’s superb pass, to score the third goal. The last goal came from a pass through the whiskers to Buffy whose 3D skills proved too much for the keeper to manage. It was a true textbook training shot. We retired to dry off and have some teas satisfied with the win of 4-1.
