Ladies' 2s 3 - 0 PHC Chiswick Ladies' 1s
Oxford Hawks L2s stormed to their second successive victory on Saturday against PHC Chiswick L1s. Against the backdrop of the wet and wild Storm Dennis, Hawks set out determined not to let the conditions get the better of us.
The first half saw a plethora of chances for Hawks in front of goal and we were unfortunate not to be ahead before half time. With some tough tackles and great organizational work from the defence, we rode out waves of pressure from Chiswick and calmly continued to put together lovely passages of attacking play, which were unfortunate not to be rewarded with a goal. We did not lose hope though, with each player committed to winning their 50-50s across the pitch. We sensed that we went into the half time break ahead in the psychological battle even though the score remained 0-0.
After half time, we continued where we left off with patience and calmness the order of the day. We worked tirelessly for one another, always mopping up any attempt of a through ball and therefore nullifying any Chiswick threat. To our delight, mid-way through the second half we were able to convert one of our many chances into a goal! Man of the match Alice Potter produced a sublime bit of skill to take the ball around the keeper and into the back of the net. Hawks then rode out another period of pressure from Chiswick, with the majority of play being in the middle two quarters of the pitch. We won a succession of corners and Rachel stepped up to consolidate our score with a great straight strike from the top of the D. Finally, in the last 5 or so minutes of the game, Alice again managed to bring the ball down from the air and put it past the Chiswick keeper to seal our 3-0 victory.
A fabulous team performance and one which we will hope to repeat in a couple of weeks’ time against Epsom after our half term break. We’re looking forward to it already!
Man of the match: Alice Potter
