L6s hopes for victory blown away in windy game against Sonning

01 February 2020, 13:30, Berkshire Sports and Social Club

Ladies' 6s 1 - 2 Sonning Ladies 4s

On a cold and blustery day Hawks Ladies 6s made the journey to Sonning’s home pitch. We were immediately put on the back foot by Sonning who came out determined to improve on their previous performance. There were some tense moments as Sonning came close to scoring but, fortunately for us, failed to find the backboard. We had a few good attempts on goal, which eventually came to fruition when Molly, with an assist from Phil, made a cracking run down most of the pitch, past three members of the opposition and the goalie to score the first goal of the match, earning her POM.

After a team talk from Phil and half-time sweets, we began the second half. Sonning were relentless in their attack and eventually got their big break, scoring two goals within eight minutes. Unfortunately we were unable to take back the lead, and the game ended 2-1 to Sonning. Goalie Purdy made some excellent saves, particularly on two occasions where she was one-on-one with a Sonning player. There was also excellent play from other Hawks players, particularly Romilly who made some great runs and was runner-up POM to Molly.

Hopefully we can improve on this performance next week when we play against top-of-the-league team Thame at home!

Thanks to Phil and Jan for organising, Purdy for the yummy POM flapjacks, and Molly’s mum for managing the subs!
