Having had a good first half of the season the ladies 1s were looking to continue their good form in their first league game back against local side Oxford Uni. The Uni side came out the stronger of the two teams, winning the 50/50 balls and putting the Hawks defence under a lot of pressure. But despite not looking like their normal selves the Ladies 1s stayed focused and kept them out. Hawks started the second quarter much better with good leads and connections being made all over the pitch. All this leading left a lot of room behind the uni midfield and a long ball from Bex Oakes up the middle left Emily Smith with a 1 on 1 with the keeper which she calmly took around her and slotted the ball home.
Hawks knew they were not playing to their usual high standards and the message going into the second half was to simply take it up a few gears. Despite starting the second half much better two quick goals from Oxford stopped Hawks in their tracks. Hawks fought hard until the final whistle but were unable to take any of their chances. Knowing they can play much better than they did, the Ladies 1s will be back stronger next week when they travel to Cheltenham.
