After last week's demoralising loss to Oxford, the Ladies 4s were ready to get back to winning ways and that’s just what they did against Wycombe.
With the fantastic availability in the Ladies club this weekend there were a few changes to the typical line up for the 4s which could have proved challenging. The game got underway and Wycombe probably started slightly stronger and put the L4s under pressure, stringing some nice passes together especially on the counter. That being said however, during the first half Kayleigh Buddin never had to make a save (or touch the ball for that matter). Hawks’ defence held strong, with Becky and Sue at full back controlling the back four setting a great foundation for the rest. Hawks proved they were also threatening on the counter after some great link up play between the half backs and inners providing some dangerous balls for the forwards of Rebecca, Karen and Polly to work their magic with, panicking the Wycombe defence creating a few goal mouth scrambles which Wycombe some how kept it out.

The second half started, and after a fantastic team talk from Tam, the 4s collected their thoughts from a confidence building first half and sprung into action taking the game to Wycombe. With some great pace from Eveena, Emily and Evie in the midfield and Jossy and Mimi up front, Hawks pressured Wycombe into a few mistakes especially in their defensive half. The fours soon reaped the rewards and a short corner was won. A few corners had already come and gone in the game, but there was no need to panic and the 4s were determined to make this one stick. It was pulled straight to Bethan who, with some quick thinking, chose to change it up and flick the ball to the far post where Karen was waiting to knock it into the back of the net, 1-0 Hawks!!! Wycombe never went down without a fight however and looked rather handy down their right-hand side forcing a few short corners which the defence cleared up nicely – Kayleigh making a crucial save to keep the score at 1-0 with only a couple of minutes to go. Hawks always looked the most likely to score however with Evie and Jossy linking up nicely only for the ball to glance passed the back post.
Final score 1-0 Hawks. Karen Meadows with the goal from a short corner.

Thanks for Tam for controlling it on the side and for Lucy for taking the time to manage our subs and to Evelyn Hargaves for the great photos.
