Hawks had a late start away to Amersham and Chalfont 2s. As expected being the last match of the day the start was delayed as the previous match was running late. It was further delayed due to a problem with the lights, apparently they were too bright and had to be switched off and reset as we were not playing at International level. Not sure if that many Internationals are played at Amersham.
When the game eventually started Amersham were quick to put the Hawks defence under pressure. Hawks held strong and were composed at the back taking care with transfers and determined not to give the ball away. After twelve minutes, patience was rewarded. With some slick passing Hawks broke forward and were rewarded when Helen scored the first goal. The second goal came fifteen minutes later when Lili drove to hit left hand base line and her goal bound shot was deflected in by Karen. Hawks went down to ten players when Lucy was given a green card but they held strong and finished the half 2 -0 up.
Hawks started the second half feeling confident and looking to build on their first half performance but he young Amersham side were never going to give up and their pressing was rewarded when they won the ball from a hit out and scored on the break within two minutes of the restart. This was a wake up call for Hawks. Amersham continued to press hard looking for an equaliser and Hawks struggled to get the ball out of their half. After soaking up a bit of pressure Hawks manage to break through the Amersham lines and Helen scored her second goal of the day ten minutes from time. The game finished 3-1 to Hawks who were pleased with an excellent team performance and to come away with three points. Helen was voted Player of the Match. Megan H is doing the baking next week.
