Ladies 2s take all 3 points from 2nd in the league Eastbourne

25 January 2020, 13:00, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 2s 2 - 1 Eastbourne Ladies 1s

The Ladies 2s were massively keen to start the 2nd half of the season after a very successful pre season with wins against Oxford 1s and Oxford Brookes.

Hawks were playing 2nd placed Eastbourne and knew that it would be a Challenge Anneka but they were defo up for it and were raring to go after a very motivating team talk from coach, Emily Wilkins.

However Eastbourne started very well and immediately were in the Hawks D and putting the defence and GK Kate under pressure but the score remained at 0-0. Both Hawks and Eastbourne created a number of chances throughout the first 15 minutes but the visitors were first to convert. With the score at 1-0, Hawks got a welcome kick and up popped Jo Palethorpe to score Hawks’ first goal.

At half time the score was 1-1. Eastbourne came out strongly again in the 2nd half and were camped in Hawks 25 for what seemed like hours, much to the frustration of the Hawks bench and supporters. Eastbourne created chance after chance but the entire hawks team were up for the challenge and worked tirelessly to ensure the score remained at 1-1.

A short corner was awarded to Hawks after a great move involving Man of the Match, Harriet Hargreaves. Rachel Minihan cooly hit the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

With Hawks in the lead, Eastbourne chucked everyone forward but Hawks did a brilliant job to stay strong and fight until the end.

A great start to the 2nd half of the season and the ladies 2s look forward to welcoming Woking at BRN next weekend.
