The L6s early game bird catches all 3 points from Windsor 2s

25 January 2020, 10:00, Banbury Road North (Top)

Ladies' 6s 2 - 1 Windsor Ladies 2s

Windsor made the long trip up to BRN seeking revenge for the upsetting home defeat earlier on in the season. It was a closely contested game which saw Hawks come out on top, so we knew it would be a battle.

The opposition came out strong in the first five minutes or so, with some direct hits into Hawks’ D hoping for a deflection into goal. Iona made some good saves and calls to our defence enabled us to keep the flurry of attempts out. A good twenty minutes of strong hockey play by the girls in maroon gave us our two goals from Lotty and Molly. Our youngsters dominated the middle of the pitch, with some great runs from Rosie, Becky and Charlotte.

Just before the half time whistle, Windsor came back at us and threatened to score but were unsuccessful. 2-0 up and the message from captain Phil was to stay tight and to expect Windsor to come out as they did at the start of the match. An exact replica of play of the first half followed, and unfortunately this time Windsor were able to find the backboard at last from a hard hit into the D managing to find a Windsor stick for that desperate deflection they were looking for.

Again, Hawks had a flurry of good possession and tried to get that elusive third goal to put the game to bed but even with a few short corners that were executed as they were at training, we just couldn’t to finish the game off. Final score was 2-1 and MOM went to Bella Dawes. Thanks to Becky for some yummy cupcakes devoured by the team back in the clubhouse!
