Our last match before the Christmas break and it was derby day for the ladies 3. Away at Oxford, we were searching for a win to make it four straight wins.
After an intense warm up and the discussion of each lines focus point, we started strong, playing some of the best hockey so far this season. We were pressing high and looked promising in the D, placing an immense amount of pressure on their defence. Despite this fantastic start, at about 10 minutes in Oxford break and scored. It was unfortunate to concede, as this didn’t reflect how we were playing. After this our heads seem to have dropped, as we kept giving the ball away unnecessarily, which made it harder on ourselves. Before half time we had a few more attacking chances in their half with a few short corners, but we couldn’t capitalise when inside the D. We went into half time 1-0 down. A big second half was needed.
After our half-time Haribos, we were ready to go, determined to get some goals. This wasn’t to be, as Oxford were quick out of the blocks, and managed to get another goal a few minutes after half-time. This didn’t stop us as we continued to stretch up the pitch, looking for a goal to get us back on track. We had some really good passages of play through the middle and into the D, but the Oxford defence was solid and managed to keep the ball out of the back of their net. Despite our hard work and effort going forward it wasn’t to be an Oxford managed to score 3 more goals.
The final score wasn’t a fair reflection on how we played, the entire team never gave up and kept pushing. Well done to everyone, and special mention to POM Kasey for another masterclass in defence. DOD went to Clare P for walking into a post and Olah for getting a green card.
Have a merry Christmas and happy New Year, let’s come back stronger in January!
