It was a sunny, frosty morning, so frosty in fact that we were saved by the 4s match being cancelled and ended up with a full bench and even wangled ourselves a manager on the side to organise the subs (thank you Clare Webbo!). The sun was shining so much, the Henley yellows merged into the sunlight half the time.
We started off surprisingly strong considering the awkward silence as Megan H forgot our starting ritual after god knows how many games!
The middle of the pitch was dominated by Beth F, who was composed in the middle and controlled the game with strong outlets to our wide players; Priya, Mimi and Clare P, showing us some pace down the lines. Rosie looked dangerous changing the angles towards goals, where Zoe was waiting.
Zoe brought home the goods with two superb goals. Firstly an awesome pick up just outside the D, turning on a six pence, finishing with an epic shot on the reverse to slot home the first goal. Not long after, Zoe skilled at least three Henley players to get a shot in from the worst possible angle imaginable across the goal onto the far post into the back of the net.
The defence stuck to their goals - composure and discipline, with no goals or short corners conceded with GK Linda bossing the defence from the back.
Not much of note happened (except two goals in the back of the net), the most popular discussion point post match was that it didn’t rain.
After a somewhat slow start to the season, we are slowly climbing up the table and showing everyone else what we’re made of.
Congratulations to player of the match Zoe, thoroughly deserved and maybe we can convince her to come back for more games!
