This week we were playing Windsor who have had a good run so far in the league and sit towards the top of the table. However after a good end to the previous match we all knew what we needed to do - start and maintain the intensity of our play. We had a few changes to the squad and were missing our captain Emma, and Sophie was in bed with flu, but most of the team had played together before.

With the rain holding off - just- we started well. In fact we kept a lot of possession in the first half of the game and worked the ball well into Windsor’s D. A thumping pass from Pip across the goal saw Victoria on the post knock in a text book perfect goal . We were ahead.

Windsor had a number of short corners and it was on one of these that they deflected the injected ball quickly and a hard strike saw a goal. Our problem came with playing an attacking game -  on a turnover Windsor made good use of the ball and their attackers worked very quickly to outnumber the defending Hawks players and it was difficult for our midfield to work back and help out. It was these sort of plays that enabled Windsor to get their second goal so at half time the score stood at 2-1.

In the second half Windsor were off the mark quickly and soon a third goal was scored. It was this rather late point, as in other matches, that the Hawks team got to grips with the problem and stepped up their game. The last quarter saw us dominating the ball and battling hard for possession showing real skills and teamwork. Our mids and forwards effort secured our second goal, popped in by Abi , however, despite lots of play in Windsor’s D, we couldn't find that equalising goal.

Another loss, 2-3, but the highest number of goals this season. We need to take all the positives from the match - and there were lots - and look to capitalise on them next week to find that elusive win.

Thanks to Evelyn Hargreaves for the excellent photos.
