The Ladies 2s welcomed a strong Henley side to BRN and were keen to get some points on the board after making good progress in recent weeks.
The game started with Hawks on the back foot having to absorb a lot of pressure in the first 10 minutes. This resulted in an early goal for the visiting side. However, Hawks responded positively to this and won themselves a penalty corner. Tam Pascoe managed to get on the end of a ball from the top of the D to deflect it towards goal. Soon after this Henley continued to pile on the pressure and took the lead once again when they were awarded and converted a penalty corner right before half-time, so 2-1 to the visitors and with all to play for in the second half.
The second half started with Hawks showing they were going to put up a fight. With some good interplay and movement off the ball, Hawks threatened the Henley defense and were awarded another penalty corner. This time Jemma Robson was on hand to fire the ball home into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Once again Henley responded with another goal to retake the lead. Hawks showed great character to persevere, winning 50/50 balls and taking quick frees and were awarded yet another penalty corner. This time Rachel Minihan was there to deflect a Rosie Abbott ball into goal. With 2 minutes left on the clock, Hawks thought they would be able to see the game out with a 3-3 draw and one point on the board but it wasn’t to be. A turnover ball saw Henley on the counter attack managing to send the ball home with 20 seconds left on the clock leaving the final score 4-3 Henley.
A hugely disappointing finish for the 2s after the impressive performance they put in. But with so many positives to take away from the game we believe that the results will come.
