U16 Boys 5 - 3 Oxford U16 Boys
Hawks Under 16 boys team produced an excellent all round performance to beat their close neighbours Oxford on Sunday afternoon at BRN.
Hawks started in confident fashion moving the ball with purpose. The defence comprising of Chris Batten, Rory Middlemiss, Riley Aumonier, Oliver Thomas and the outstanding Will Laird were in determined mood and snuffed out early pressure from Oxford. As the game progressed tireless work in midfield from Thomas Frost, Arthur Baldock and the impressive Jamie Hill meant that Hawks started to see more of the ball in the Oxford half. With the front line of James Coles, Joseph Kerr, George Guillain and Andrew Watson beginning to cause problems, chances for Hawks followed.
Coles opened the scoring with a fine individual goal after 20 minutes only for Oxford to respond from a short corner. Parity was short lived with Coles re-establishing Hawks lead just before half time following an excellent move.
Hawks started the second half brightly and made it 3-1 following a clinical short corner from Coles. Hawks continued to attack and Baldock increased the lead from close range. With 20 minutes remaining pressure from Oxford brought two quick fire goals despite excellent work from goalkeeper Tom Image. However, a fine move down the right wing culminating in a slide rule pass by Watson to Coles brought Hawks 5th goal.
A hard fought but deserved victory and a great start in this years cup competition.
