Mens 7's grind out valuable win in the rain at Reading

09 November 2019, 13:00, Reading University Sports Park

Men's 7s 1 - 0 Phoenix & Ranelagh Men's 3s

Cold rain, Venables stuck in traffic somewhere, and after 5 minutes of play, it seemed like the needed win against the bottom club might not materialise as Hawks struggled to get possession.

But everyone got stuck in, we marked well, and actually started to pass the ball, and once the tardy Venables had arrived, Hawks began to get into the oppo D. the pressure eventually told and Nico managed to scoop in a goal....

We had some chances, Peter Hobbs had another great game in defence, Will Cairns despite a hamstring issue held the middle well, and half time 1-0 we should have motored on.

Phoenix however, had other ideas, and the second half saw them put more pressure on the Hawks defence, Theo made some excellent saves, none more than a triple save when somehow Phoenix had 3 attackers in the D with the Hawks defence gone missing....

Shorts at both ends saw no further goals, and the rather lax umpiring probably went more in Hawks favour than the home team....

In the end, the whistle went and it was a really well earned 3 points....

Well played all.

MoM Theo (of course....)
