Ladies' 7s gain a point from a very soggy match

09 November 2019, 13:30, Wycombe High School

Ladies' 7s 1 - 1 Wycombe Ladies 5s

On an extremely wet Saturday our Ladies 7s were playing in High Wycombe. We started well but Wycombe applied a vast amount of pressure and scored within the first 15 minutes. We were losing 0-1 at the end of the first half.

We discussed how to improve during half time and began to play stronger as a team. Helen achieved a lovely aerial into the D but with the bounce it was impossible to control. Poppy herself did a lovely breakaway having a one on one with the keeper, but the ball went just wide of the far post. During the game Hawks managed to win a few short corners although none progressed to become a goal. Then the Umpire awarded Wycombe a penalty flick which was beautifully saved by Iona. Motivated by Iona’s save, Hannah won the ball and drove up the left channel.  She then passed to Holly on the right who stepped into the circle to shoot. Helen was waiting on the post and scored a fantastic drawing goal. The final score as 1-1!

So, it was no surprise that Iona in goal, who had a great game, was voted player of the match.
