Ladies' 1s take a draw at Basingstoke
27 October 2019, 14:00, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 1s 0 - 0 Basingstoke Ladies 1s
After a frustrating draw vs Exe last weekend, Hawks were fired up looking for a win on home turf this weekend. Hawks were put under immediate pressure from the first whistle by Basingstoke, level with points in the league table, however the home defenders put on a solid performance to keep the score at 0-0 after the first quarter. Sally Clark in particular was on outstanding form, deservedly earning her the player of the match award, for both outstanding defensive play but also some fantastic attacking distribution. The second quarter saw some similar periods of play, with Hawks starting to come more into the game - but with neither side able to create many chances, the score remained at 0-0 at half time.
After this frustrating first half Hawks picked up the tempo. Having more possession than in the last half, they created opportunities as a result from some good connecting play by the team. Despite the improvement in tempo Hawks conceded a short corner - in fact the only corner of the whole game - but it was well defended. After some excellent attacking play Becca Edwards unfortunately got a green card, however Hawks managed being a player down calmly by keeping possession until she returned. Hawks upped the pace again in the final quarter and even though they created quite a few opportunities, they couldn’t convert and the final score remained 0-0.
