Ladies 4s earn their first 3 points of the season

Ladies' 4s 4 - 2 Witney Ladies 2s

Despite some good performances in the first 4 games, the team were without a win and lying 2nd bottom of the league, so a win, sooner rather than later, was really needed. With Polly’s music still ringing in their ears, the team went out to play Witney 2s with purpose and determination.

The first 5 minutes did not go well and with Witney pressing hard, Hawks let in a somewhat soft goal and things didn’t look good. However, after soaking up even more pressure, the team started to gel and things suddenly clicked. With the young legs and speed of Emily, Evie, Ffion, Lucy and Alice, we started passing and linking really well, and it wasn’t long before Witney started to struggle to get the ball off us - Hawks were looking really good! Goals soon came through excellent team play, which involved the whole team, from the defenders to the attackers, and Hawks equalised and were then soon in front. For the latter part of the first half, the Team, in line with their pre match talk, held onto possession and dominated the final third with ease.

It looked like the half time break rejuvenated Witney though, as they pressed hard and high right from the off, and it was a difficult 10 mins for Hawks. As a result, Witney managed to pull one back. However, it wasn’t long before our team took control again, and with Witney clearly tiring as the second half went on, a fourth Hawks goal soon came, and that all but sealed the win. Despite Witney continuing to try hard at the death for their third, which may have led to a fraught final few minutes, the Hawks defence dealt fantastically well with everything thrown at them, and so a fantastic win 4 -2, was in the bag. Our scorers, Kim (2), Rebecca and Monica could have had more, and there were too many good performances across the whole team to highlight any individual. There were a number of nominations for POM, with tireless Ffion getting the final vote.

Everyone ran their hearts out today, linked incredibly well, and retained the ball, and if this is how the team are going to play throughout the rest of the season, then things look bright, and to coin Linda’s song of choice, we are “moving on up”.
