Hawks U14s match against Oxford U14s was held on St Edwards AstroTurf. The score ended in 4-1 to Hawks.
The weather started as grey and miserable but as the game went on the clouds parted and a shining sun broke out. The newly formed team had never played together and couldn’t even name all the members of their team! Luckily their coaches organised name-based stretches and they soon were comfortable with names. After the first fifteen minutes- of equally shared possession of the ball, Hawks pulled through and scored their first goal. Hawks had a number of excellent short-corners but unfortunately had a couple of slip ups and despite their efforts no goals went in. In the second half Hawks scored an extra 3 goals and let in one. The goals were great examples of passing past the goalie to a deflection from the right hand corner. Oxford’s goal was similar- a striker passing to just behind the goalie to a waiting forward who popped it into a corner.
Thanks to Dizzy and the Oxford coach who umpired and to both team’s coaches for cheering on.
