A quick trip to Woking started with Rachel turning up with the wrong socks and having to tape her shinpads to her leg with surgical tape.
Despite this, we started the match well with 2 goals from Siena in the first 4 minutes. It was a confident start and we were holding our ground. Shortly after we were awarded a short corner and after a small breakdown Alice struck the ball from the left side of the 'D' to just inside the back post. Making it 3-0. After a lovely ball from Laura to Alice and a run to the base line, Kathryn make the score 4-0. Another short corner, slight breakdown led to a 'deliberate' squeeze shot from Helen to make the score 5-0. Hawks were flying and in total control.
Unfortunately, Woking were awarded a flick and scored which mean the half time score was 5-1.
It's fair to say the second half was a very different story as Woking came out with different tactics putting Hawks on the back foot from the starting whisle. Working were clearly not going to give up without a fight winning themselves a series of short corners. Their straight striker was on good form finding the backboard twice bringing the score to 5-3. Hawks continued to absorb a lot of pressure from the home side. And conceded another penalty corner making the final score 5-4.
From Hawks it was their first 3 points of the season and they remain unbeaten. There was some great first half play, plenty of grit in the second half to hang on and some lessons to be learned. Onward!
