L4s eventually succumb to Sonning 2s
28 September 2019, 14:00, Banbury Road North (Top)
Ladies' 4s 1 - 4 Sonning Ladies 2s
The match got off to a great start with both teams working well right from the whistle and the first 20 minutes saw some intense but evenly matched play. An interception from Sonning left them with an opportunity to break through the Hawks’ defence and take the first goal, leaving the L4’s 1-0 down.
Not a team to be disheartened, Hawks continued to put the pressure on. Re-setting the play it wasn’t long before Hawks was on the offence. A short corner and clinical strike from Rebecca later led to an excellent goal and a 1-1 score line! An awesome come back, re-energising the team!
Following half-time the Sonning team came out determined. They worked hard to keep the Hawks attack out, leaving us few opportunities and eventually scoring their second goal on the break. Nevertheless, the Hawks defence continued to fight back, deflecting attacks and moving the ball out to midfield. With some great runs and hard work, play was up and down the pitch, albeit with Hawks defending more than they would like! A hard fought second half came to a conclusion with 2 more Sonning goals conceded towards the end of the match. Final score line of 1-4 but with excellent teamwork the L4s have come away feeling positive.
Player of the match had mentions across the team, with the majority of the votes for Linda (GK) who had an outstanding game keeping Sonning on their toes!
