There were lots of dark and gloomy clouds hovering over the pitch for the Under 14s first match of the season against Reading.
The newly formed team started well with lots of pressure from Hawks on the Reading goal. The first half saw several short corners but despite the efforts no goals went in. Just before the end of the first half the team managed to get the ball down into the D and Molly swept it into the goal. One nil at half time.
The second half started with the long awaited downpour with all the parents wishing that the match was on the near pitch. The team got soaked but continued to press onto the Reading goal. A number of Hawks short corners were attempted but still no short corner goals. However, the ball managed to get into the D where Molly was waiting to score goal number two. Two nil up with 20 minutes to play and Reading seemed to have a new lease of life and came back at Hawks where they took their chance and scored. The final 10 minutes saw Hawks under the most pressure they had experienced during the game with a number of Reading short corners all of which Hawks defended well with the end score 2-1 to Hawks. A good win for the first game.
Thanks to Lisa and Robbie for the coaching and Scraggy and Jacs for umpiring.
