Ladies 6s lose out 1-2 away at Amersham and Chalfont

28 September 2019, 16:00, Amersham & Wycombe College

Ladies' 6s 1 - 2 Amersham & Chalfont Ladies 4s

As the weather was more like the winter seasons passed and the long summer days feeling like a distant memory, Hawks Ladies 6s made their way to Amersham for their second competitive league match.

Arriving at the ground, that was open to the elements, we were ushered into the changing rooms to stay in the warmth and talk tactics. As a squad with a few new faces, we used the time to get to know each other and for captains and master tacticians Phil and Jan to let the team know their expectations for how they wanted us to play.

Braving the cold and intermittent rain, we finally headed out for a warm up in the car park and when we were finally allowed on the pitch, a quick knockabout before pushback. For the first 15 minutes, Hawks maintained good possession and were putting into practice all we had spoken about. Some positive offensive play by Buffy, Caitie and Alessia piled on the pressure early on but unfortunately we couldn’t quite find the goal we deserved.

Amersham and Chalfont feeling on the back foot started to increase their pace and found ways to start overloading our defence. It unfortunately led to them getting the first goal of the game and they started to keep us penned into our 25. An unfortunate decision went against us, and a flick was awarded just before the half time whistle. Our goalkeeper Lina made a fantastic dive to her bottom right corner and saved it!

A quick intake of drinks and sweet treats and Hawks were ready for the second half battle. An impressive stop high on the pitch by Phil led to a lovely bit of play by our forward line and a goal from Molly. Again, Amersham came back at us with their intense offence and Lina continued to keep us in the game by making some fantastic saves. Jan worked tirelessly to help her out and push the ball back out to a Hawks shirt. Rom, Caitie and Buffy had a tough game in the midfield supporting our defence. With the elements, ground and decisions not quite going our way we unfortunately ended up conceding a second goal.

Our MOM wasn’t even voted on to save paper as undoubtedly Lina had such a great game. We look forward to trying some of her baked goods next week at teas!
