Ladies 1s lose out in final friendly
21 September 2019, 11:00, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 1s 3 - 6 Sutton Coldfield Ladies 1s
Match report by Frankie Brown.
On Saturday, the Ladies first team faced a strong Sutton Coldfield side. It was a difficult first half as we were left 2-0 down after the first quarter. But we then won a short corner, however due to the heat the pitch proved very dry which made the task of pulling out tricky, and as such no goal was scored. However, in the second quarter, Emma Stevenson made a strong drive down the wing with a cross into Smithers, who was able to make the score 2-1. Gemma Taylor was on fine form earning her the (joint) MOM award. During the second half, after a very well-placed ball from the other MOM Reaney and an excellent shot from Hie, the score levelled to 2-2. As the third quarter drew to a close, the opposition were able to score from a short corner, and, due to some unfortunate mistakes on our part, another goal to make the score 4-2. In the final quarter Emma Stevenson was able to bring the score up to 4-3 after a shot from Smithers rebounded off the goalkeeper, nevertheless Sutton Coldfield were still hungry for another goal and with nine minutes to go, scored a couple more to make the final score 6-3 after some more individual errors. Despite the scoreline it was a very well fought game, perfect to ready the team for our first league game on Saturday.
