Wallingford started firmly with a goal that was disallowed. They played well together, like a team that has played together before. They quickly put pressure on our defence and began to store a string of goals. We pulled ourselves together and began to fight back. Sophia GK had a great game but at times the sheer numbers on top of her overwhelmed her. Melanie also played an excellent game at half-back, clearing the ball well and fighting back if she lost possession.
At half time we resolved to do better and connect to our own players whenever possible. However, it was not to be. After less than two minutes of play, the game was halted as one of Wallingford’s players had hurt her knee and could not get off the pitch. An ambulance was called. The game was abandoned as the clock ticked down.
The teas were excellent, and we voted Melanie as player of the match. We wish the injured player a speedy recovery.
