We started off a bit slow against Witney and fell into old habits of holding on to the ball a little too long and trying to play through the central channel rather than switching. However, we began to pick it up and with some nice passing and switching the game soon opened up.
Moments before the end of the first half we won a short corner. A little ping pong and good timing from Lotty saw us one goal up as the halftime whistle blew.
Unfortunately in the second half Witney scored two impressive goals, capitalising twice on the break. The defense could do nothing, being so suddenly overloaded, and the goals were deserved. We also failed to capitalise on Witney going down after a player was sent off. Things were looking not great. However, they could have been worse if it wasn’t for some stellar defending, notably Jan holding the ball on the back line not only saving us from a goal but a short as well. It was good cool under pressure. Another certain goal was saved by some excellent skills from Monica’s newly purchased stick. We saw our second goal come from a lovely play from Sophie at the 25 line to Alessia, who was there to pip it in.
It was a deserved draw and a nice game to end the season.
Thanks to Charlie Baggs for umpiring and to Ffion for her excellent after match brownies!
