Hawks Ladies 2 made the journey to West Hampstead for a crucial 2nd vs 3rd placed match in their quest for promotion. The journey was not without incident as Rosie was introduced to the niceties of London driving on the North Circular. Hawks started brightly taking the game to West Hampstead with some strong attacking play, and their keeper was called on to make some key saves. Sadly Hawks just couldn’t quite connect on the final pass, and West Hampstead came back into the game in what was a fairly even contest.
Following some wise words from Kara and Diz, Hawks raised the tempo at the start of the second half, and quickly earned a short corner. A well-executed routine, saw Rosie bury the ball in the far corner, 1-0 Hawks. From there the game started to open up more, and the Hawks half backs in particular came into their own, with Vics storming down the right channel to set up many attacks, and strong running from Man of the match Harri in midfield. On one such attack, the ball fell to Abbie in the D, who buried it on her reverse to give Hawks some breathing space.
West Hampstead continued to fight, and created chances of their own including earning a couple of short corners. A straight strike, brought West Hampstead back into the game to set up a tense final 10. Fortunately, Hawks managed the situation well, though it may not have felt like this to those watching, and saw the game out for 3 more points.
A special mention has to be made for probably the best teas of the season - Sweet and sour chicken with rice and chips and then pudding…
