U18 Girls end the season in emphatic style
24 March 2019
U18 Girls 4 - 1 Teddington U18 Girls
Oxford Hawks U18 Girls rounded off a very successful season with a superb 4-1 win over Teddington in the highly competitive Home Counties Premier League. The win, with a vital strong scoreline moves Hawks into second place in the League - behind Southgate and above Reading on goal difference.
Due to some unavailability, it was a core group of 11 players who took on a well organised London side (including their four subs) on a remarkably warm afternoon. The team stayed focussed throughout and some strong running from the forward line of Lexi Newall, Holly Senior and Siena Robins, well supported by Poppy Webb, Rowena Hearn and Amy Litchfield in midfield, created several chances before Lexi opened the scoring. Poppy added a second before half time to put Hawks 2-0 up going into the break. Teddington scored early in the second half and Hawks had to dig deep with no subs available to provide some rest – one or two players found creative ways around this, including a brief two minute break courtesy of a green card and an injury - although fortunately nothing too serious! The back four of Chloe Scragg, Jess Madden-Waite, Emily Cavender and Evie Potts along with Cora Clayton-Browne in goal made an excellent job of containing any more Teddington attacks. Further goals from Lexi and Siena wrapped up both the game and a very enjoyable season!
Thanks to Sue and Dizzy for organisation and motivation, with the aid of the essential restorative half-time Haribo!
